Interim Director:
Circulation numbers continue to edge downward. Interim Director, Mary Finney, reiterated that staff
were working to provide great materials and a clean, welcoming place to visit. The trend is one that is
being experienced throughout the nation.
Interim Assistant Director, Jennifer Furuyama, is planning to change the preschool storytime to a
different day to minimize overlapping other preschool programs.
All staff attended the Umatilla County Special Library District (UCSLD) In-Service on April 4th.
Attendance by all staff is mandated in the UCSLD/CITY agreement. Lifeways staff presented a program
on ‘Dealing with patrons with Mental Health Issues.’ Finney will try to host them during a staff meeting
to get a program more focused on local issues. Furuyama has also been working hard on the Adult Prom
to be held on May 2nd.
Furuyama also attended the Volunteer Appreciation Program presentation before the City Council to
recognize the great volunteers who give so much to the city.
The Mayor proclaimed April 13 through the 18th as Volunteer Appreciation Week. Presentations were made. Illumination Spencer was awarded the Teen Volunteer Award. They then left the meeting to have refreshments in the Community Room.
For her college class, Heather Culley, Technology Services, created a film clip informing viewers of how to download an ebook or audiobook from the Library2Go program. She will be adapting that to suit the needs of our library.
