Technology to be used in the Children’s Area includes a Smart Wall, and AWE Afterschool Edge computer. The Library currently owns an AWE computer for use by the preschool set which is very well used by all ages. The Afterschool computer will come loaded with programs which the older children will find useful and informative. The Smart Wall will be used for storytimes and programs in the Children’s Area.
Finney recently set up a booth at the Pendleton Farmers Market and surveyed the crowd in regard to their use of their library card. Of the 100 responding, the major use of the card was for book check out. The Mango language database had only 2 responses and the Learning Express garnered no responses. Finney said she was able to spread the word about these poorly utilized offerings. They were mat with interest by the market attendees. Finney explained for those on the board that Mango was the language database and Learning Express was a database of training modules which are self-paced and available for all ages.
Finney handed out an invitation for a free fundraising workshop to be held October 24th at Tigard Public Library. Finney indicated that she will be attending the Public Library Directors’ Annual Meeting the day before, so if anyone on the board wished to attend, they would need to either come with her a day early or plan for their own transportation. She emphasized that this is a great opportunity for training for the Pendleton Friends of the Library Foundation committee, and, she is encouraging anyone on the board who is interested to plan to attend. Finney will be presenting this opportunity at the PFOL board meeting on Thursday as well as suggesting it to the Foundation committee.
Finney reported that the Library has a new webpage, www.pendletonlibrary.weebly.com . Board members were asked to visit the page and provide feedback. The Library has purchased a Pro account which allows video clips to more easily be attached to the page. It is a work in progress.

New Business:
September Meeting:
Perkinson explained that because the board meeting in September falls during Round Up that the practice is to skip September. The board will reconvene in October.
Other:
Finney handed out an article which she thought was interesting. Interior decorating businesses have been formed which supply books in specific colors for use in decorating the home. One business the article discussed supplies ‘shelf-read books’ which start at $6.99 per linear foot. Pricing depends on the color and the ‘style’ provided. One provider is a company that buys and sells books. The owner Chuck Roberts says, “we had many books that nobody would buy to read. This repurposes books we can’t sell for reading or collecting.” Finney will take this article to the PFOL meeting. They may wish to contact this company.
The meeting adjourned at 6:30 PM
Next meeting: October 13 @6:00
Respectfully submitted.
